Grant County ammonia leak prompted order to stay inside

ROYAL CITY, Wash. -- Sheriff's deputies put an end to a Shelter in Place for businesses and residents within one mile of a fruit storage facility Monday morning following an ammonia release.

Deputies ordered the Shelter in Place for residents within one mile of Royal Ridge Fruit at 13215 Road F-Southwest on State Route 26 in Grant County following the release of anhydrous ammonia at the facility.

Deputies said the incident was under control and was of minimal risk to the public. However, a Shelter in Place order was in effect in event of another gas release.

The Shelter in Place was canceled around 1 p.m. Monday as officials determined no further risk was present.

People in the limits of Royal City were not at risk.
