Overcast skies, humidity help firefighters in Lewis County wildfire

ONALASKA, Wash. (AP) — Overcast skies and higher humidity helped fire crews get a preliminary line around a wildfire in Lewis County.

Washington State Department of Natural Resources spokesman Chuck Turley says people living in the 20 homes that were evacuated on Sunday were allowed back by the end of the day.

As of Monday morning, Turley says there have been no injuries.

The fire in southwest Washington is burning a forest that had been harvested about 25 years ago and replanted. About 100 firefighters are battling the blaze.

While the cooler weather is helping firefighting efforts, Turley says they're keeping an eye on the thunderstorms that are in the forecast for later Monday.
