Portland man sues apartment complex for 'pit bull discrimination'

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — A Milwaukie man has filed a lawsuit claiming the owners of an apartment complex discriminated against him because he owned a pit bull and is African American.

The Oregonian reports that Lee Davis has filed a federal lawsuit in Portland's U.S. District Court alleging that Holland Residential discriminated against him.

According to the lawsuit, Lee was told his 1-year-old pit bull could not live with him since the Miramonte Lodge apartments have a restricted breed list. Lee gave up his dog and took the unit. But he says once he moved in he discovered several residents who were not African American kept dogs on the list.

A Holland Residential official did not respond to requests for comment.
