NASHVILLE, Tennessee — A person armed with a hatchet and gun was killed Wednesday by police after attacking at least one person inside a suburban Nashville movie theater.

Police said the attacker was dead after opening fire on SWAP officers who were called to the scene to reports of an active shooter.

Authorities said the suspect was found with at least two backpacks and police were working to clear those bags to ensure they did not contain further threats.

The Carmike Theater in Antioch Tennessee was locked down as were area businesses.

Police said the attack began at the start of a showing of the movie Mad Max.

Authorities were trying to determine if someone inside the theater was injured by the hatchet.
