New fishing restrictions off Neah Bay begin Sunday

OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) — New fishing restrictions begin Sunday off Neah Bay.

The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife will require anglers to release any Chinook salmon they catch in ocean waters off the bay.

State fishery managers expected to meet the Chinook harvest limit by the end of Saturday.

Last week, state officials dropped the daily Chinook limit in some parts of Neah Bay to one fish. The catch total for the fishery had reached 82 percent of the allowed total for Neah Bay by the beginning of last week.

Anglers are still allowed to keep Chinook salmon they catch in other areas off the coast, including Ilwaco, Westport and La Push.
