Man drowns in Lake Washington after falling from boat, officials say

SEATTLE -- Authorities say they pulled a man's body from Lake Washington late Sunday. Seattle firefighters were called to the 4500 block of Lake Washington Blvd. shortly after 7 p.m. for a water rescue. Fire officials found the body around 8:30 p.m.

Crews searched in and around Andrews Bay for more than an hour before finding the 32-year-old man. Authorities said the man fell off a 20-foot Pleasure Craft. Witnesses told rescuers that they saw him bobbing up and down in the water before going under. Fire officials said several others jumped in the water to go after him.

By the time rescue crews got to his location, they believe he had been submerged in silt and murky water for nearly 90 minutes. He was located in water approximately 45 feet deep, according to the Seattle Fire Department.

Authorities said they were able to get to the man quickly because witnesses knew his location, and they already had several crews in the area because of the Seafair festivities.

The victim is not believed to have been wearing a life jacket. Seattle Police is investigating how and why he fell in the water.
