SUV hits, kills great-grandmother pushing stroller in Spokane

SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) — Spokane police say an SUV swerved onto a sidewalk, striking and killing a 68-year-old woman who was pushing her grandson in a stroller.

Cmdr. Brad Arleth says the woman died at the scene Tuesday morning, while the boy suffered minor injuries.

Arleth says a drug recognition expert determined the SUV driver was likely impaired by drugs. The Spokesman-Review says the 34-year-old SUV driver was arrested on investigation of vehicular homicide.

The Spokane County medical examiner's office identified the pedestrian as Marla Langley.

KHQ reports that Chellsea Langley called her grandmother a hero for protecting her 2 ½ year old son.
