Man holding baby surrenders after 4 hour standoff with police

EVERETT, Wash. (AP) — An Everett man accused of domestic assault surrendered to police after a four-hour standoff.

Police say they received a domestic assault call at about 7:30 p.m. Monday. When they arrived at the apartment, an adult female was outside.

She told police that she escaped after the assault, but couldn't take her 2 month old baby with her. The man inside was the baby's father, but he refused to come out or release the infant.

Officers surrounded the apartment and tried to get him to come out. After several hours, the man released the infant. He finally surrendered at 11:15 p.m. and was taken into custody.

The man will be booked into the Snohomish County Jail on felony domestic assault charges.
