Fire damages 4 houses and garage in Seattle's Maple Leaf neighborhood

SEATTLE - A two-alarm fire damaged four houses and a detached garage in Seattle's Maple Leaf neighborhood early Thursday morning.

Fire crews responded to the 8500 block of 8th Avenue Northeast just before 3 a.m. for a reported fire at a home under construction.

Seattle fire department spokesman Kyle Moore said that the fire started in one home and quickly spread to two neighboring homes. Embers from the fire then spread to another home's detached garage, and smoke damaged a fifth home in the neighborhood, Moore said.

There were no reports of any injuries and Seattle firefighters reportedly rescued two pets: a lizard and a fish.

The American Red Cross has responded to the scene to assist with residents that have been displaced by the fire.

Heat from the window blew out windows at nearby St. Catherine's School, fire officials said.
