Father of school shooter: Not guilty to new gun charges

SEATTLE (AP) — The father of the Washington teenager who fatally shot four high school classmates and himself in October pleaded not guilty in federal court to new firearms charges.

Raymond Fryberg was charged in March with illegally possessing the gun his son used in the Marysville-Pilchuck High School shooting. The original complaint said Fryberg was the subject a domestic violence protection order in 2002 and was prohibited from possessing guns.

Last week, federal prosecutors filed a new indictment charging Fryberg with illegally possessing a cache of weapons, mostly rifles.

He was arraigned Thursday in U.S. District Court on the six-count indictment and pleaded not guilty to the new charges.

His lawyer, John Henry Brown, called the charges "ridiculous" and said they were charging him for guns that he voluntarily turned over to the police under the terms of his release.

Fryberg remains out of custody. His trial is Aug. 31.
