Washington truck driver sentenced in heroin, meth bust

RENO, Nev. (AP) — A Washington state truck driver caught with $500,000 worth of heroin and methamphetamine while passing through White Pine County, Nevada in 2013 has been sentenced to 16 years in prison.

The U.S. Attorney's Office in Nevada says Victor Orozco of Grandview, Washington, was sentenced Monday in U.S. District Court in Reno.

Orozco is a licensed commercial truck driver and was carrying a load of watermelons in April 2013 when he was stopped by the highway patrol for an inspection.

An officer found 19 ½ pounds of meth and 4 ½ pounds of heroin meticulously wrapped in plastic in a duffel bag under the tractor's sleeping compartment.

A jury found Orozco guilty earlier this year of two counts of possession with intent to distribute the two drugs.
