Brush fire scorches grass, burns garage in rural Kitsap County

PORT ORCHARD, Wash. – A quick moving 3-acre brush fire scorched grassland and a garage.

It happened at a farm on Linda Lane Southwest near Port Orchard early Tuesday afternoon.

The wildfire’s cause is still under investigation but the homeowner said his two grandsons heard fireworks and then saw smoke. The boys tried to fight the flames but the wind pushed the fire out of control

Nearly 20 firefighters from across Kitsap County worked the fire.

The narrow, dirt road doesn’t have hydrants so the water rolled in on trucks.

Neighbors said they also heard fireworks shortly before the fire broke out.

The fire burned out the garage; firefighters said the flames blew out the windows.

The extremely dry weather conditions have neighbors concerned about flare-ups.

“We keep looking at the forecast, the 10 day, we got dusted with rain last night obviously that didn’t really help that much,” said resident Kara Robinson. “We’re in a dire need, we need some rain.”

Fire officials reported no injuries. Firefighters have the fire contained and will continue mopping up overnight.
