Brush fire forces temporary evacuation of 20 homes in Bonney Lake

BONNEY LAKE, Wash. -- A large brush fire in Bonney Lake on Wednesday afternoon forced the evacuation of 20 homes threatened by the blaze, the Bonney Lake Police Department said.

The Fire Department officers went door-to-door conducting evacuations.

But at about 5:30 p.m., the Bonney Lake Police Department tweeted that there would be no further evacuations and "the fire appears under control."

No homes burned, and no injuries were reported.

And at about 6:50, the police department tweeted that all evacuees were allowed to return to their homes.

The police department tweeted that the fire was on the east side of the Sky Island neighborhood, near "The Summit" gated community. But it later corrected that to say the fire was in the Panorama Heights neighborhood.

East Pierce Firefighters said the fire erupted between 177th Avenue Ct E, on the hillside, and 180th Av E, ‪in ‎BonneyLake. The police department had advised homes on 177th Avenue Ct E to evacuate.

East Pierce Firefighters said crews from East Pierce, Central Pierce, Orting Valley were all fighting the blaze in Bonney Lake. East Pierce called a general alarm to bring off-duty firefighters back to work.

"Fire crews will be on scene of this event for a while to ensure its contained and stays out," said East Pierce Firefighters. "Firefighters are worried about spot fires developing from the embers flying away and will be working to ensure those don't cause more fires."
