BELLINGHAM -- A second small plane has been reported missing in Whatcom County, officials confirmed, just days after a different plane crashed in the North Cascades.

Washington State Department of Transportation Aviation officials confirmed that a plane flying from International Falls, Minnesota to Orcas Island went missing Saturday night. A man and a woman were on board.

Crews are searching in a five-by-five square mile section of Whatcom County for possible wreckage. The search is in initial stages, officials said.

Though the plane was scheduled to arrive Saturday, family did not notify officials of the missing plane until Tuesday night.

The plane was not connected to the crash of another small plane Saturday originating from Kalispell, Montana. That crash left two people likely dead, and injured a 16-year-old girl, who hiked out of a remote area over two days.

Rescue crews are still attempting to reach the wreckage of that plane, as it crashed in a remote and hard to reach area.

This story is breaking and will be updated as more information becomes available.
