Deputies find missing California girl in sex offender's garage

LOS ANGELES -- A teenage girl reported missing by her parents in Santa Clarita, Calif., was found in the garage of a convicted sex offender, authorities said Wednesday.

KTLA, citing the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, said the girl's parents reported her missing Tuesday night.

Police found a phone number in the girl's phone records and traced it to the home of Kaene Dean. While searching the home, deputies found the girl inside the garage at about 2 a.m. Wednesday.

She told deputies she had befriended Dean at a grocery store and that he had sexually assaulted her.

Dean is a registered sex offender due to a conviction for indecent exposure in Glendale, KTLA said.

He was booked into jail and being held on $100,000 bail.
