Wildfire in south Puyallup area fully contained; crews watching for hot spots



PUYALLUP, Wash. -- Authorities said a wildfire that sparked Mondaysouth of Puyallup was fully contained late Tuesday.

According to Central Pierce Fire & Rescue, about 20 acres burned. Firefighters said the perimeter was holding, and crews would continue to watch the area for flareups.



The fire was first reported Monday afternoon behind Lipoma Firs Golf Course in Puyallup.

Officials initially said some residents were evacuated in the area of 132nd Ave E and 200th Street E.  But later, around 9 p.m., Central Pierce officials said homes were on notice to be ready if evacuations became necessary.



Crews said the fire was difficult to fight because it was in a heavily wooded area. A cause of the fire has not yet been determined.

There were at least 11 fire engines at the scene late Monday.

The public was asked to avoid traveling on 200th Street near the Orting-Kapowsin Highway, and anywhere around Emerald Ridge High School.
