SEE IT: Stranded great white shark rescued on Cape Cod, pulled out to sea

CHATHAM, Mass. — Beachgoers helped keep a stranded juvenile great white shark on a beach alive on Monday until rescuers could drag it back out to sea.

“There was no way for the shark to get to where it could swim, so it just kept flapping and moving over,” Kelly Skanell told WCVB.

Beachgoers splashed water over the shark’s gills until rescuers could arrive and provide aid.

Reports say the shark became stuck on the beach as it tried to reach a seagull.

The 7-foot male was dragged by a rope attached to a boat driven by Dr. Greg Skomal of the Division of Marine Fisheries and Chatham Harbormaster Stuart Smith and freed one mile off shore.
