Man charged with killing parents, storing them in freezer kills himself

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) — A Springfield, Ore., man jailed on charges of murdering his parents and storing their bodies in a freezer died Thursday night in a hospital after a suicide attempt in his county jail cell, authorities said.

Lane County sheriff's Sgt. Carrie Carver said 38-year-old Jeremy Ringquist died Thursday night.

She says deputies discovered his suicide attempt late Wednesday night, finding him with what she described as "linens around his neck." She said deputies had been checking him at least hourly and he had been seen regularly in jail by mental health staff.

He was arrested last week on two counts of aggravated murder in the deaths of Randy and Karen Ringquist, with whom he lived in Springfield.

Their bodies were found in a freezer in the the home on June 23. Jeremy Ringquist was found bleeding from injuries police believed to be self-inflicted. He was initially taken to a hospital, then jailed on June 25.

Springfield is 110 miles south of Portland.
