Wildfire burning near Quincy threatens homes, briefly forces evacuations

QUINCY - A quick moving wildfire in Grant County has burned 5 structures and consumed 2,100 acres near the small town of Quincy.

All of the structures were outbuildings or abandoned, and none of them are homes, the Grant County Sheriff's office reported.

The fire, called the Monument Hill Fire, was reported around 11 p.m. Tuesday night; it's burning in dry sage brush and grasses. Winds are reported to be in the 10 - 15 mph range, the Sheriff's office reported, contributing to the spread of the blaze.

Fire crews have the fire approximately 20 - 30 percent contained. No one was injured in the blaze.

A Level 3 evacuation notice was issued for approximately 20 homes. Standing agricultural crops are also threatened, officials said. Around 7:25 a.m., officials dropped the evacuation order. Still homes remained in danger however, officials said.

A Red Cross shelter has been set up at Quincy Junior High School at 417 C Street SE.

The fire comes as crews get a handle on multiple fires burning near Wenatchee, about 70 miles to the north.
