Woodland police: Burglar shoots, kills dog

WOODLAND, Wash. (AP) — A 63-year-old man is in Cowlitz County Jail, accused of shooting and killing a dog during a burglary in Woodland.

Woodland police arrested Thomas Nash on investigation of first-degree assault, first-degree burglary and animal cruelty. He was booked into jail late Sunday.

Police say Nash broke into a shop on Saturday afternoon and shot a black Labrador Retriever dead. The dog's owner told police he woke up when he heard gunshots in his shop and went to see what happened. The gunman allegedly fired at the man but missed. He fled.

Several regional police agencies had searched for Nash over the weekend.

The Longview Daily News reports police said the two men knew each other and been at odds recently.
