Bicyclist dies after crashing in Columbia River gorge

CORBETT, Ore. (AP) — A bicyclist has died after crashing and being hit by a car in the Columbia River gorge.

The accident happened on Saturday at about 10:30 a.m. near the George W. Joseph State Park, just east of the town of Corbett.

Multnomah County Sheriff's Office says the male bicyclist was going downhill with a group of other bicyclists when he crashed going into a curve. He fell into an opposing lane of traffic, and was hit by a car.

The driver stopped to help the bicyclist. Rescue personnel also tried to revive him, but the bicyclist died at the scene.

The bicyclist's name has not been released, pending family notification.
