Simple tool aims to save pets from danger, death in hot cars

SEATTLE -- The heat is on! We are expected to see very high temperatures this week and weekend and will likely break records.

According to the American Veterinary Medical Association, each year, hundreds of pets die from heat stroke or exhaustion because they are left in hot cars.

The AVMA says even at 70 degrees, it could reach 110 degrees inside your car.

Banfield Pet Hospital is handing out car thermometers to change colors to alert pet owners when it’s too hot in the car for animals.
