One man drowns, another rescued in Yakima River



PROSSER, Wash. (AP) — One man is dead and a second was taken to a hospital after they were reported struggling Wednesday night in the Yakima River between Prosser and Benton City.

The Tri-City Herald reports (http://is.gd/07fr8f ) that Prosser Fire Chief Doug Merritt said the man who died was under water for more than an hour before the body was recovered by Columbia Basin Dive Rescue.

Merritt says the second man was rescued by his companions.

They were part of a group of people swimming in the river.
