Mental patient accused of attacking nurse, other patients with piece of Plexiglas

SEATTLE (AP) — A 24-year-old Kent man is facing charges after officials say he attacked another patient and a nurse at Bellevue's Overlake Medical Center with a broken piece of Plexiglas.

The Seattle Times reports that the Kanvir Singh Grewal checked himself into the facility and was admitted to the Behavioral Health Unit.

King County prosecutors say Grewal pulled a fire alarm and broke a Plexiglas case for a fire extinguisher June 16. He then broke off a sharpened piece of Plexiglas and went into a patients room and began stabbing the sleeping 65-year-old in the back of the head.

Prosecutors say during the attack he also broke a nurse's nose and attempted to strangle another patient.

Jail and court records show Grewal remains jailed in lieu of $500,000 bail.
