Local church vandalized for a third time

SEATTLE -- The Reverend Reggie Witherspoon arrived at his church this morning to find the front door to Mount Calvary Christian Center smashed by a liquor bottle.

Surveillance video shows that at 3:30 AM Saturday morning, someone launched a liquor bottle across 23rd Avenue smashing the front door of the well-known church.

Rev. Witherspoon said, "We haven’t done anything to you so I don’t know why you keep doing this to us?"

Several months ago someone sprayed graffiti all over the church. Last month, someone smashed several windows. Now their front door that is open to anyone has been vandalized too.

Longtime member, Cheri Givens says she has already forgiven the person who did it.

Givens said, "Even at the worst of humanity, they are still worth saving. They are still worth loving, just because they’re human."

Rev. Witherspoon said Seattle Police Chief, Kathleen O'Toole, called him to say how concerned she was on Saturday. The church is already in the process of replacing the door and will host its normal services on Sunday.
