Arrest made in shooting death of man on West Casino Road in Everett

EVERETT -- Police arrested a 33-year-old man Thursday for the shooting death of  another man on West Casino Road who was seeing his ex-girlfriend, police said.

On Wednesday, Carlos Lara-Ramos, 28, of Everett, was found shot in the parking lot of the Arterra Apartments at 711 W. Casino Road. Witnesses said the suspect fled on foot. Lara-Ramos later died of his injuries at the hospital.

Detectives working the case developed probable cause Thursday to arrest Alexander Sandoval Ortiz on suspicion of first-degree murder and unlawful possession of a firearm.

"Both men had dated the same female and the suspect was upset his relationship ended," a police news release said. "On June 16th, the suspect obtained a handgun. On the afternoon of the 17th, he found out the victim was in an apartment along Casino Road. The suspect waited outside to confront the victim and the two men argued. The argument turned physical during which the victim was shot once. The suspect fled the area on foot and the victim died on the way to the hospital."

Police said detectives recovered the handgun and impounded it as evidence.

"There is no indication that this shooting is related to other incidents in the area and it does not appear to be gang-related," police said.
