McEnroe appealing life sentence, verdict

SEATTLE (AP) — A man convicted of killing six people in the Christmas Eve 2007 killings in Carnation, Washington is appealing his life sentence.

The Seattle Times reports that five days after Joseph McEnroe was formally sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole his attorney Katie Ross filed a notice of appeals. The notice says that he wants the verdict and sentence reviewed by the state Court of Appeals.

McEnroe was convicted in March of killing six members of his then-girlfriend Michele Anderson's family. Jurors told the judge they were unable to reach a unanimous decision on whether he should receive the death penalty. The default penalty in such a circumstance is life in prison without parole.

Michele Anderson's trial is scheduled this fall.
