Pregnant woman drowns after getting trapped by fallen tree in Carbon River

TACOMA, Wash. -- A pregnant woman drowned after being trapped by a fallen tree Sunday afternoon on the Carbon River.

Rescue workers used a chainsaw to free 31-year-old Dyana Ricci, of Tukwila, who became trapped under a log while tubing about 20 miles southeast of Tacoma.

Pierce County Sheriff’s spokesman Ed Troyer told The News Tribune Ricci was in a group of three tubing the Carbon River near Orting.

Troyer said rescue workers were performing CPR as they took the woman to Good Samaritan Hospital in Puyallup where she was later pronounced dead.

Ricci was reportedly in the water for an hour before being rescued.

No one in the group was wearing a life jacket, according to the Tribune.
