WSP: Detectives to recommend vehicular homicide charges against wrong-way driver in fatal crash

PORT ORCHARD — A wrong-way driver on an on-ramp to State Route 16 in Port Orchard hit and killed a motorcyclist Friday morning.

Washington State Patrol Trooper Russ Winger received reports of a crash on westbound State Route 16 near Burley-Olalla Road in Port Orchard.

According to Winger, a 2013 Dodge Charger driven by a 39-year-old man made a U-Turn and drove the wrong way on an on-ramp to avoid traffic around 6:15 a.m. A 33-year-old driving a 2007 Yamaha YZF-R1 motorcycle was traveling on the right shoulder, and struck the Dodge Charger head on.

The motorcyclist was killed in the crash. No one else was injured.

WSP said the cause of the crash was the wrong-way driver. He is expected to be charged with vehicular homicide, troopers said.

Troopers are still investigating the crash.
