SEATTLE — A 6,200-square-foot 1923 mansion was being moved late Wednesday — by water.

The four-bedroom, six-bath brick/stone home, which firm Nickel Bros. said was once nearly totally rebuilt for $6 million, was sold most recently for $850,000. It was being moved from Seattle’s Madison Park neighborhood to Bainbridge Island, across the Puget Sound.

Nickel Bros, which is the contractor moving the home, said the house weighs a whopping 400 tons.

This has got to be one of the most interesting moves I have ever seen. Why pack when you can move the whole house. That is very cool and different. I know that this is not the first time a whole house has been moved, but across the Sound, well that is different. Rock on to those who moved it. Gives a whole new meaning to house movers.

I do remember an Aunt and Uncle in BC moved a very large two story home from the mainland to Main Island off the coast. They used it as a summer home.. flying back and forth in the family seaplanes.. very fun times getting there.. there was a family across the cove that had a full on zoo on the island!. Zebra, Giraffe. on and on. .the yacht moored in front was just crazy.. only the wealthy eh?
