Athletes prepare for Women's World Cup, despite FIFA noise

SEATTLE -- As news of the FIFA scandal breaks, some athletes have bigger issues on their mind.

Actually competing in the FIFA Women's World Cup, for one.

With the beginning of the cup just a few weeks from now, the U.S. Team ushered questions away from the FIFA scandal, ESPN.com reports, and toward action on the pitch in a recent interview.

"It's important to note that whatever happens in Switzerland or in Brazil or in Japan with their federations, or even our own, and FIFA, we have no idea what goes on, nor do we have any control," Abby Wambach of the U.S. Women's team told ESPN.

The U.S. Team will open play on Monday, June 9 in Winnipeg against Australia. Multiple games will be broadcast on Q13 FOX and JOETV.

The U.S. Women's Team is in pursuit of its first World Cup Title since 1999.
