One dead, two injured in wrong-way crash on Snoqualmie Pass

SNOQUALMIE PASS, Wash. – One person was killed early Sunday after a car traveling the wrong way on I-90 at Snoqualmie Pass crashed into an SUV near the summit.

The incident occurred just before 4 a.m. near Milepost 53. A 2012 Ford Fiesta was going east in the westbound lanes of I-90 when it hit a 1993 GMC Suburban. The Washington State Patrol reports that the driver of the Fiesta, a 23-year-old man from Puyallup, died at the scene. His name will not be released until his family is notified.

The driver of the Suburban, a 50-year-old man from Seattle, and his passenger, a 69-year-old woman from Seattle, were both taken to Harborview Medical Center for treatment.

The westbound lanes of I-90 were closed between Mileposts 54 and 52 while the scene was cleaned up and the investigation was underway. All lanes were reopened by 9 a.m.

It isn’t known if drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash. Trooper Chris Webb said that reports of the Fiesta going the wrong way on WB I-90 first came in when the car was at Milepost 38.

The Fiesta, the Suburban and the boat that the Suburban was pulling were all totaled in the incident.
