Strong 6.8 magnitude earthquake hits off Japan's coast; no tsunami danger reported

TOKYO -- Strong offshore earthquake registering magnitude 6.8 hits northern Japan, no danger of tsunami.

According to the U.S. Geological survey, the quake struck near the east coast of Honshu shortly after 2:00 p.m. Tuesday.



The National Tsunami Warning Center said a tsunami was NOT expected for the west coast of the United States.
