Deputies: Late-night boat crash seriously injures 1, man arrested for BUI

YELM -- Police arrested a 37-year-old man for boating under the influence Friday after crashing into a dock and seriously injuring a 43-year-old passenger in his boat, the Thurston County Sheriff's Office said.

Sheriff's deputies said the three occupants of a 16-foot aluminum fishing boat were drinking shortly before taking the boat out on Lawrence Lake at 11 p.m. Friday. The man driving the boat failed to see a dock in the water, and crashed into it. One of the passengers, a 43-year-old woman from Roy sustained a compound leg fracture from the crash.

Once police arrived on scene, they arrested the driver of the boat for allegedly boating while intoxicated.

Sheriff's deputies wanted to remind people that, just like driving a car, driving a boat while drunk is against the law.
