Puyallup families sue district, say sons molested by student

PUYALLUP, Wash. (AP) — Two families suing the Puyallup School District say their special-needs sons were molested in a classroom bathroom by another special-needs student in 2013.

The News Tribune of Tacoma reports that the families claim in a lawsuit filed April 27 that they weren't contacted until almost a year after they say the incidents occurred.

The families also allege that officials at Ridgecrest Elementary School did not notify state Child Protective Services and law enforcement in a timely manner and did not adequately supervise the boy they accuse of abusing their sons.

Puyallup School District Attorney Carlos Chavez says the district disagrees with the families and believes staff responded appropriately.

Puyallup Schools spokesman Brian Fox says the district concluded that the allegations of abuse were unsubstantiated after an investigation.
