Seahawks sign former Army Green Beret Nate Boyer, 34, as undrafted free agent

RENTON, Wash. -- U.S. Army veteran and former Texas long snapper Nate Boyer says he has agreed to sign with the Seattle Seahawks as an undrafted free agent.

In an interview on NFL Network on Saturday, Boyer said he was called by Seattle coach Pete Carroll after the draft concluded.

" the best athletes in the world, and just to get an opportunity and be able to compete, play for a great team in a great city, I couldn't be more thrilled just for the chance," Boyer said.

Boyer, 34, was part of the U.S. Army Special Forces in Afghanistan and earned a Bronze Star. Boyer also served in Iraq.

Boyer walked on to the football program at Texas and learned how to become a long snapper. He eventually won the starting job and was the long snapper for the Longhorns his final three seasons.

He had been working out in Los Angeles trying to put on weight after playing his college career at 195 pounds. Boyer told NFL Network he had just eaten a sandwich when Carroll called.

Seattle takes pair of offensive linemen in 4th round

The Seattle Seahawks addressed their needs along the offensive line by selecting San Diego State offensive tackle Terry Poole and West Virginia guard Mark Glowinski with their two fourth-round picks in the NFL draft.

Seattle selected Poole with pick No. 130 overall and followed up selecting Glowinski at No. 134 overall on Saturday. Poole is 6-foot-5 and 307 pounds and, despite starting every game at tackle during his two seasons with the Aztecs, may project more as a guard in the NFL. Poole was a second-team all-Mountain West selection last season.

Glowinski already made the transition from tackle to guard during his college career with the Mountaineers. Glowinski started all 25 games the last two seasons at West Virginia and was a second-team all-Big 12 selection his senior season.
