Oregon revokes license of driver who killed 3 children

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) — State officials have suspended the driver's license of a Springfield man two months after he drove his pickup into three young children, killing them.

The Driver and Motor Vehicle Services Division on Friday said Larry LaThorpe's indefinite license suspension began April 13.

The Eugene Register-Guard reports the DMV revoked the license because 68-year-old LaThorpe has a medical condition that makes it unsafe for him to drive.

The agency also found he contributed to a fatal wreck by being "incompetent, negligent, or recklessly or unlawfully" operating a vehicle.

After the February 22 collision, LaThorpe stopped at the scene and cooperated with investigators. A breath test indicated he had not been drinking. He said he had a green light and didn't see pedestrians in the crosswalk until after his pickup struck them.
