Former Pasco cop is suspect in cold case homicide

SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) — Police in Spokane say a former Pasco police officer is a suspect in a 1986 homicide in Spokane.

Spokane detectives say they have identified Richard J. Aguirre as a suspect using DNA evidence.

The Spokesman-Review reported Thursday that Ruby Doss was 27 when she was found strangled in Spokane in 1986.

Police say Aguirre's DNA matches DNA that was collected when Doss was killed.

Aguirre is currently being investigated for an unrelated alleged sexual assault which occurred in the Tri-Cities area last year.

Aguirre was placed on administrative leave from the Pasco Police Department and recently resigned.
