What happens in video of 'social experiment' may disturb you

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. -- Video of a "social experiment" is gaining national attention and sparking an intense debate.

The video shows a woman walking down the street in Myrtle Beach while wearing “stripper garb” and a reflective mask, and how people respond to the unusual sight.

The uploader wrote this in the video's description:

"American Reflexxx is a short film documenting a social experiment that took place in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Director Alli Coates captured performance artist Signe Pierce as she strutted down a busy oceanside street in stripper garb and a reflective mask. The pair agreed not to communicate until the experiment was completed, but never anticipated the horror that would unfold in under an hour.

The result is a heart wrenching technicolor spectacle that raises questions about gender stereotypes, mob mentality, and violence in America."

According to WMBF, the filmmakers never expected what ultimately happened at the 10:20 mark in the video.

Some say the video is nothing more than a stunt. It already has more than half a million views.

Filmmaker Alli Coates hopes viewers can learn from the video.

"Whether it's race or gender, or class or anything like that, we just had no intention going into this video about any of those things," Coates told WMBF. "It just inherently happened because that's how real society works."
