88-year-old man with possible dementia dies after pickup plunges into water in Tacoma



TACOMA -- An 88-year-old man died after his pickup truck plunged off a boat ramp and into the water at the Narrows Marina in Tacoma Tuesday night, police said.

The Pierce County Medical Examiner's office identified the man as Richard Gustafson from Fircrest, Washington.

Fire and police divers found the man in the truck and he was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital, police officer Loretta Cool said. His condition was not immediately known.

Troyer said the man was reported missing by his family at about 3 p.m. Tuesday. Troyer said the man may have dementia.

At about 9:30 p.m., the pickup truck drove down the boat ramp and into the water.
