USGA announces transportation plan for U.S. Open at Chambers Bay

PIERCE COUNTY -- In preparation for the first U.S. Open, the U.S. Golf Association has released detailed information regarding traffic plans to help anyone who plans to attend the championship avoid backups as best as possible.

The U.S. Open, running from June 15-21 at Chambers Bay in University Place, is expected to draw 250,000 weekly spectators to the course located nine miles west of Tacoma.

Of course, traffic is expected to be substantial. But officials say with the help of proper planning, backups will be mitigated.

"The transportation plan for the 2015 U.S. Open at Chambers Bay is the result of countless hours and an 18-month collaboration with community officials," Hank Thompson, director of U.S. Open administration for the USGA, said.

Officials said more than 21,000 satellite parking spaces have been secured in the local area, and will be provided free of charge. A complimentary shuttle service will also be provided directly to the course.
