Arlington police officer injured in Smokey Point hit-and-run

ARLINGTON, Wash. – Police in north Snohomish County are looking for a vehicle involved in a hit-and-run incident Friday night that injured an Arlington police officer.

The crash happened around 10:45 p.m. at the intersection of Smokey Point Boulevard and 172nd Avenue NE, east of Interstate 5 in the Arlington portion of the Smokey Point neighborhood. According to city spokesperson Kristin Banfield, the Arlington Police sergeant was going south on Smokey Point Blvd. and crossing 172nd when he was hit on the passenger side of his patrol car by a car traveling east on 172nd.

The impact caused the patrol car to spin, and the airbags on the passenger side were activated, Banfield said. The suspect car then sped off, and was last seen going east on 172nd.

Witnesses stopped and helped the sergeant out of his car, then he was checked out by medics. Banfield said that the sergeant was taken to Cascade Valley Hospital in Arlington for treatment, and he was later released.

The Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office is helping Arlington Police with the investigation, Banfield said. No description of the suspect vehicle or the driver was available.
