Man gets 10 years for helping kill co-worker's wife

YAKIMA, Wash. (AP) — One of two men convicted of fatally shooting a woman outside a Union Gap movie theater has been sentenced to 10 years in prison.

Juan Ibanez-Cortes pleaded guilty to second-degree murder for killing his co-defendant's wife, Cynthia Kelley-Munzanreder, in February 2013. He was sentenced Thursday in Yakima County Superior Court.

The Yakima Herald-Republic says Ibanez-Cortes testified against former co-worker, John Munzanreder, as part of his plea deal.

Jurors convicted Munzanreder of first-degree murder in February for shooting his wife in the head. He is scheduled to be sentenced Friday.

Prosecutors say he was having an affair and hoped to collect on a $250,000 life insurance policy on his wife.

Ibanez-Cortes testified that Munzanreder offered him $20,000 to help him kill his wife.
