AUBURN -- A 70-year-old woman who fell and slid about 150 feet down a steep embankment in Auburn was rescued by firefighters Thursday afternoon.

She was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

The Valley Regional Fire Authority said it were dispatched to the scene shortly after 3 p.m. Thursday.

A "woman and her two grandsons, ages 11 and 7, slid down an embankment above the White River," the fire authority said in a news release.

The 11-year-old was able to walk up the hill and call 911, while the 7-year-old needed help up the hill from firefighters. Both boys were uninjured and were left in the care of their mother, the fire authority said.

A fire authority spokeswoman said the woman had slid about 150 feet down the hill.

After reaching the woman at the base of the hill, firefighters decided that due to the steep terrain that it would be safer to remove her from the scene via boat on the White River.

The woman was ultimately transported to Auburn Regional Medical Center in stable condition.

She was not immediately identified.
