Seward Park neighbors' action leads to arrest of teenage suspects in burglaries

SEATTLE -- Seward Park neighbors circulated surveillance photos of suspects in a rash of burglaries and attempted break-ins -- and that led to a relative of one of the victims recognizing two of the teenage suspects boarding a bus in south Seattle.

That relative called the cops. And Seattle police, acting quickly, were able to arrest the two teens -- a 16-year-old and 17-year-old -- after they stepped off the bus at Rainier Avenue and Genesee Street.

The boys were booked into the King County Youth Service Center for investigation of burglary, police said, and detectives are working with a third suspect—a 15-year-old girl—and her parents to return stolen items to the victims.

Police are also still working to identify a fourth suspect involved in the case.

Detectives said they believe the group of four teens first tried to break into a home in the 5100 block of S. Spencer Street just before 2 a.m. on March 29. The suspects walked into the yard of the home, but took off running when they noticed the house was equipped with a surveillance system.

The suspects didn’t go far, though, dashing just down the road to a home in the 5200 block of S. Graham Street. There, police said, the teens climbed through a window and stole an iPad, computers, an Xbox and video games.

The teens fled the home after the residents awoke to find the suspects standing in their bedroom.
