ROME, Italy — The former boyfriend of Seattle’s Amanda Knox said Friday’s acquittal is a ‘rebirth’ for him.
Raffaele Sollecito held a news conference in Rome Monday to describe his feelings to reporters after the Italian Supreme Court cleared he and Knox in connection with the murder of Meredith Kercher.
“Everything has to change and I’m not in this kind of limbo,” Sollecito can be heard saying in English in a video posted by The Telegraph.
Sollecito said he needs time to heal.
“For me, the wounds inside my soul, inside my heart are – it’s very hard to erase them,” he said. “I need to time really breath this fresh air, this new fresh air.”
In Italian Sollecito said he was sorry that Kercher’s family was disappointed and saddened by the verdict.
“This verdict represents the judicial truth, which this time coincides with the factual truth,” he said. “I have nothing to do with this homicide.”
