Officials: Police shoot man with knife after reported assault in Federal Way

FEDERAL WAY, Wash. -- Federal Way police say one of its officers shot a man who refused orders to drop a knife.

Federal Way police were called to a reported assault near 275th Street and Pacific Highway South around 6:30 a.m.

Officers located a man who matched the suspect's description walking south on Pacific Highway just north of S. 288th Street.

According to police, officers shot the suspect after he refused to put down a knife. They said the subject fled across the highway before he was taken into custody by other responding officers.

Police say the man was conscious when he was taken to Harborview Medical Center. He has not been identified.

No other details about the shooting were immediately released.

 

A multi-agency team will investigate. The officer has been placed on paid administrative leave, according to department policy.
