UPDATE: Driver killed in crash on Everett overpass

EVERETT, Wash. – A man was killed Sunday morning after his car crashed into a pole on the 41st Street overpass in Everett.

The crash happened around 9:40 a.m. According to Everett Police spokesperson Aaron Snell, the car came off of the ramp from southbound I-5 onto 41st Street when it went through the intersection, went over a raised median, hit a sign, the went back across 41st and hit the cement base of a crosswalk pole. He was dead by time medics and police arrived.

The driver was the only person in the car when the crash happened, and no other vehicles were involved.

Multiple lanes of the overpass were closed as the crash was being investigated. The on-ramp from 41st onto southbound I-5 was also closed, as the crash happened near that intersection. All lanes were back open by noon.

Snell said that speed was the primary factor in the crash. The Snohomish County Medical Examiner's Office will release the name of the driver, and the exact cause of death, later this week.
