Stanwood firm recalling spinach products due to possible listeria contamination

WASHINGTON -- Twin City Foods Inc. of Stanwood, Wash., is recalling spinach products because they have the potential to be contaminated with the listeria organism, the Food and Drug Administration announced Tuesday.

Listeria can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail and elderly people and others with weakened immune systems.

Although healthy people can suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.
