Pursuit, crash in Port Angeles ends in 1 arrest; 2nd suspect sought

PORT ANGELES, Wash. – An overnight pursuit in southeast Port Angeles ended with one arrest, a truck crashing into a garage, an occupied house broken into and a felon on the loose.

There were no injuries, but it left plenty of rattled nerves in the neighborhood.

It all began with a traffic stop just before midnight on Lauridsen Blvd., not far from Eunice Street. Port Angeles Deputy Police Chief Brian Smith said that the corporal who made the stop recognized one of the three people in the truck as a person of interest in a drive-by shooting on Wednesday night. Instead of going to the truck, the corporal went back to his car and asked for backup.

At that point, the driver of the truck jumped out and ran off, while a passenger moved into the driver’s seat, restarted the truck and started to drive away. The corporal got in his car and pursued, and two blocks later did a PIT maneuver on the truck. The truck then crashed into a garage at Lauridsen and Race Street, and the two remaining people in the truck got out and started running.

A K-9 unit was called in to help look for the two, and residents in the area were calling 911 about people running through their yards. Smith said that the driver of the truck when it crashed, 19-year-old Jonathan Reid, was quickly found by the corporal and his K-9 partner hiding in a garage. He was taken into custody and booked into the Clallam County Jail for eluding and theft of a motor vehicle.

Not long after, a 911 call came in from a home on the 900 block of East 9th Street. Smith said that a resident at the home reported that a man had knocked at the door, forced his way inside and started to use the phone. It was also reported that the man warned not to use the phones in the house until he left. Once another truck arrived at the house, the man left.

Smith said that the man was later confirmed to be 20-year-old Ordez Kompkoff. He was the one that was identified at the original traffic stop as a person of interest in Wednesday’s drive-by shooting. Warrants for his arrest have been issued, agencies around the state have been alerted to be on the lookout for Kompkoff. He is currently being sought for burglary and being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Kompkoff is described as a black male, 6-1, 190 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. He also has visible tattoos on his neck. Smith said that Kompkoff has access to at least two handguns, and should be considered armed and dangerous.

The original driver of the truck involved in traffic stop was interviewed, but then released without arrest. Smith said that the driver was not involved with Reid or Kompkoff.
